Plan route
Right next to the Zaan river is the Honig Breethuis, located in the former residence of the papermaking families Honig and Breet. Tour guides tell the stories of the former residents and their business.
Visit
Zaandijk houses the former residence of the papermaking families Honig and Breet. Cornelis Jacobsz. Honig, co-founder of the papermaking company, commissioned the building around 1710. Now it is the home of Museum Honig Breethuis. The historic interior illustrates how the family of Jacob Breet and Grietje de Jager lived around 1830. In this year, the conservatory was decorated with panoramic wall paintings by Willem Uppink. A new summer house was built on the riverside. The upper floor of the summer house offers an exhibition and documentary on the papermaking company.
Guided tour
The guides will gladly show you through the house. Listen to the tour guides’ stories about the former inhabitants and their business and discover the historic furniture and hand-painted wallpaper. After the guided tour you can visit the Zaankamer to enjoy the view of the Zaan and the garden with a cup of tea or coffee.
