7 centuries
Doorwerth Castle has a rich history of over 7 centuries. The castle stood steadfast through both prosperous and less happy times. It stands once again in its full 17th-century glory, complete with its gatehouse, coach house and stables.
Middle Ages
The vegetable garden is cared for as if the vegetables and flowers were required to serve the castle’s lord. The kitchen itself is also worth a visit. The great hall and other rooms in the East and North Wings have been restored to their medieval splendor.
Nail Ceiling
In the armory, children can try on real chainmail. The prison in the south wing is still intact, complete with its infamous nail ceiling. The South Wing also hosts an exhibition on the history of the castle, forestry and hunting in the Netherlands.
