Cihad Caner, een kunstenaar uit Turkije die nu in Rotterdam woont, onderzoekt de politieke kracht van beelden en hoe deze de sociaal-politieke werkelijkheid beïnvloeden.

Representatie

Zijn werk – met video, fotografie en CGI – bekritiseert de eenzijdige verhalen in de media en richt zich op representatie, marginalisatie en beeldproductie. Fictieve personages en humor spelen een belangrijke rol in zijn niet-lineaire, meertalige verhalen.

Afrikaanderwijk

In zijn solotentoonstelling verdiept Cihad zich in de vergeten rellen van 1972 in de Afrikaanderwijk, waarbij gastarbeiders doelwit waren. Hij verkent hoe herinneringen, collectief geheugen en herbeleving bijdragen aan het verwerken van dit verleden.

First Double 1 & 2

Cihad's tentoonstelling is onderdeel van First Double 1 & 2, waarin vijf kunstenaars thema’s als spirituele technologieën, landkwesties en het herinneren van geschiedenis onderzoeken. Andere deelnemers zijn onder anderen Jabu Arnell, Luana Vitra en Nolan Oswald Dennis.
