There are exhibits on peat extraction, the flood of 1855 and the bee market. Dioramas show the Grebbe Line as a battlefield during the Flanders campaign and the Second World War. Discover the history of well-known local wool and cigar factories like Scheepjeswol and Ritmeester. Highlights are the many varieties of beehive, an ‘aak’ ship used for transporting peat, a stained-glass window from the Panter cigar factory and a painting by The Hague School artist Paul Gabriël.
Exhibitions and activities
Alongside the permanent exhibits, the museum offers three temporary exhibitions every year, as well as various related activities. Local history is placed in a broader, current-day context.
