First women

Take the city walk that highlights the first women at the University of Groningen. In Groningen’s liberal climate, these Dutch women took part in science. It was here that Aletta Jacobs became the first woman in the Netherlands to graduate university. And don’t forget about Marie Loke, who was the first female lecturer.

Follow in the footsteps of the women who paved the way to university education. The city walk tells their stories by means of nine important locations in the city. The 5,5 km route takes approximately 1 ½ hours to complete.
