Take a closer look

Berthed in front of the museum are six historic lifeboats, including the museum showpiece: the lifeboat Insulinde from 1927. These lifeboats can be viewed from the quay and there are regular guided tours, where volunteers talk about these lifeboats with great passion. Ask the desk sergeant about the possibilities. There is a Valentine-class lifeboat next to the museum that you can see up close from a raised platform.

The history of the lifeboat

A number of lifeboats are exhibited in the museum, which clearly show the development of lifeboats over time. From rowing lifeboats from the time of Dorus Rijkers to the lightning-fast RIBs that the KNRM now uses.
