Botanical garden De Kruidhof, next to the station in Buitenpost (on the rail line between Groningen and Leeuwarden) is the largest botanical garden in the north of the Netherlands and a unique day out for young and old alike.
17 themed gardens
In this four-hectare space, discover the seventeen themed gardens, each with its own unique characteristics and collection of plants. On top of this, De Kruidhof contains the largest collection of medicinal herbs in Western Europe.
IJstijdenmuseum (ice ages museum)
Also worth a visit is the IJstijdenmuseum, which is part of De Kruidhof. Travel back in time and marvel at the wondrous images and stories. The museum is worth visiting for young and old alike.
Fun for children
There’s plenty to do for children. De Kruidhof offers a beautiful natural playground and, starting this year, an educational scavenger hunt, free of charge.
Eettuin
Want to relax after taking everything in? Drink a fresh cup of coffee or have lunch at the Eettuin. The Eettuin is also a perfect place for a family gathering, wedding or office outing.
