View of the Canals

5 December 2024 until 30 March 2025

Exhibition

This activity has ended.

Through the centuries, the canals have been a source of inspiration for artists such as Berckheyde and Breitner. In this group exhibition, 25 artists each offer their own perspective on the canals.

Canals as Inspiration

The canals of Amsterdam are more than just a stunning backdrop for millions of tourists. They are cherished by the city’s residents who live and work along them. The canals are steeped in history, including some less beautiful aspects. The artists featured in this exhibition present diverse perspectives on the canals through their paintings, photographic works, drawings, sculptures, and poetry. The pieces range from familiar to completely abstract, but each one invites viewers to look closely and discover more. Some artists have even created new works specifically for this exhibition.
