Huygens Museum

Two historic locations in the centre of Voorburg attract a diverse museum audience that enjoys a varied cultural programme of exhibitions and events in a relaxing and inspiring manner. We offer our visitors an encounter with the worlds of history, art, and science, spanning 2000 years from the classical antiquity and the art and science of the 17th century to the modern world of the free-spirited Princess Marianne, and the music and visual culture of the 20th century.

Hofwijck

Hofwijck, designed by Constantijn Huygens (1596-1687), served as his refuge from the busy life at the Hague Court. The house and garden, designed in 1641, follow the principles of the Italian Renaissance, inspired by Vitruvius. The layout of the garden takes the form of a human body, a unique feature in Dutch garden design. Constantijn was proud of his creation and wrote, "The key to my heart is that of this garden."

Notarishuis

Situated on Herenstraat, one of the oldest buildings in the Huygens Quarter of Voorburg, the museum offers an engaging overview of the region's rich history. In this branch of the Huygens Museum, you will find a diverse range of topics, from the Romans and Forum Hadriani to the fascinating life of Princess Marianne of Orange.
