Molenmuseum De Valk is housed in a seven-floor tower mill dating from 1743. On the ground floor, the only remaining town miller’s residence in the Netherlands has been kept largely intact. Nineteen windmills once stood on Leiden’s walls, but only De Valk remains.
In the miller’s home
The interior of the last miller’s living room dates back to circa 1900. The attics, once used for sleeping and storage, now house exhibitions on the history and technology of flour mills like De Valk. The mill itself begins at the frame floor level. This floor contains the original grinding mechanism, which is still used from time to time.
